Tuning your guitar with the GuitarTuna app
There is a wonderful free app you can use to tune your guitar within seconds
--
If you want an easy way to tune your guitar, you can use a free app called GuitarTuna. I’m not affiliated with GuitarTuna at all, I’ve just used the app for many years and I’m always recommending it. It’s great for tuning guitars, ukuleles, mandolins and banjos.
It’s a pretty straight forward app, you just open it and it shows you a picture of a guitar. You then pluck the string that you want to tune, and it’ll tell you to turn the tuning pegs to make the note higher or lower until its perfect. Once you’ve got the correct note, you can move onto the next string.
You can get the GuitarTuna app on iOS and Android.
Using the app
When you first open the app, you’ll get this screen. All you have to do is press one of the letters E, A, D, G, B or E and then hold your phone or tablet close to your guitar as you pluck the corresponding string:
It will then tell you if the note is “TOO LOW!” or “TOO HIGH!” and all you have to do is turn your guitar’s tuning pegs.
Keep plucking the string on your guitar and hold it close to your phone or tablet as you turn the tuning peg. Once you have the right note, you’ll get a little tick:
You can then press the next string’s letter and do the same again.
You’ll notice the little “AUTO” at the top right hand corner. If you turn this off, you have to press the string letters yourself, but if you turn it on, the app will guess which string you’re plucking.
